Joseph Morgan Bio
Joseph Morgan was born in London and spent his childhood with his family in Swansea, Wales, where he attended Morriston Comprehensive School. Growing up he was an avid reader and a huge fan of the horror fantasy genre, particularly Stephen King. He became interested in film when at the age of 15 he discovered the work of Quentin Tarantino and was inspired to write his first screenplay. Morgan moved back to London in his late teens to study acting at the Central School of Speech and Drama. He continued to write and experiment with filmmaking, participating in student films and work-shopping scenes from his favourite movies. Upon graduation from Central School, Morgan was hired by acclaimed film director Peter Weir to costar opposite Russell Crow in ‘Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World.’ Soon after completion of that film, director Oliver Stone hired Morgan for a strong supporting role in the feature film ‘Alexander.’ After ‘Alexander’, Morgan spent time working on stage in the West End of London, as well as starring in numerous British television dramas including BBC miniseries ‘The Line of Beauty’, ‘Henry VIII’ opposite Emily Blunt, ‘Doc Martin’ and ‘Mansfield Park’. Morgan was also hired by Harmony Korine to play a James Dean impersonator in his film ‘Mister Lonely’
In 2010, Morgan’s film projects included the independent drama ‘Angels Crest’, and the big-budget film ‘Immortals’, in which he co-starred with Mickey Rourke. Later that year he was cast as “Klaus” a series regular in the CW hit series ‘The Vampire Diaries’ In 2011 whilst on hiatus from the Vampire Diaries Morgan filmed British Indie ‘500 Miles North’, his second film with director Luke Massey. The first ‘Warhouse’ is penciled for release mid 2013. Morgan produced both films taking an active role in the creative decision-making.
In 2012 Morgan starred opposite Sharlto Copely in Atlas Indie production ‘Open Grave’ and proved himself to be a fan favorite on ‘The Vampire Diaries’.
’REVELATION’ is Joseph Morgan’s directorial debut. He wrote and edited it with Persia White, who stars. It was shot over three nights using a crew of 30 professionals who volunteered their time and expertise.
He is currently starring in “The Originals” on The CW. Playing Klaus Mikaelson. Joseph had two films debut for 2014. Armistice, including Dermaphoria based on the novel by Craig Clevenger. The Originals returns for a second season later this year.
